Nobody saw it coming, right? Who would have known that, even in the 21st century, we’re gonna be disrupted so much by a little virus that just decided to leave its cave one day…

But, here we are. One day you are hitting the gym, the next day – you can’t even leave your home. Still, we wouldn’t be where we are today if we weren’t able to adapt and make the most even of scenarios like this one.

So, what do you do?

You make your home your base of operations. And even when corona is gone, you’ll be glad you did this.

Now, besides being the only place you can exercise right now, what are the real advantages of a home gym?

  • No commuting
  • Tailored just for you
  • No showering with strangers
  • Exercise at your convenience
  • Comfort and privacy
  • Pay nothing (except for the upfront expenses)
  • No excuses for not exercising
  • You will end up working out more

Step 1: Find the Right Space

Where to start… Pick the right spot! You may have a spare bedroom, office, basement, or even a back porch or patio, and these will be just perfect for setting up your home gym. However, you can still make great use of a space already in use – such as your living room. Dedicate a corner of a room for your home gym and you’ll be able to make it work even with limited square footage.

Step 2: Don’t Forget About Feng Shui!

Light. Air. You’ll need those two to have perfect workouts. So, make your space as light and airy as possible – ideal fitness space has lots of natural light coming in from windows or doors. However, even if your space lacks those, you can still make it up with artificial light sources – install mimic recessed lighting with tap light or add a few lamps that use soft white bulbs.

When it comes to air, when we say air we mean oxygen! So, bringing in plants can help boost oxygen levels in your home gym. Ferns, bamboo palms and spider plants are the perfect choice due to their indoor air purification powers.

Also, let’s not forget about mirrors! Mirrors are a perfect way to constantly get feedback from your own body and be your own instructor. Plus, they will make the whole space look bigger, so you’ll feel less cramped even if you are working out in a smaller workout area.

Step 3: Make It Organised

To avoid making a mess out of your workout area (really bad for motivation), make sure to keep it organised. You’ll need to store your equipment in between workouts, especially if you set up your home gym in a space you’re already using – such as your living room. A few shelves or bins will do the trick, and, besides, this way you will keep your fitness equipment neat, dust free, and out of your way when not in use.

Step 4: Keep Yourself Motivated!

Let’s admit it – all those ripped people in gyms, they do make you go a bit harder yourself too. So, without them, you may need a bit of extra motivation. If you’re living with a partner or a friend, try working out together. And definitely be creative with making it fun and competitive. Set challenges and keep lifting the bar!

Another source of motivation for you may be VR fitness.

Technology breakthroughs like the ones in VR industry seem like they were designed for times like these – what would we even do if we were locked inside our homes without access to fun content and activities?

HOLOFIT, in particular, helps with the biggest issues we’re dealing with right now:

  • Staying fit and healthy (regular exercise will also boost your immune system)
  • Beating stress and anxiety (physical activity reflects on your  mental health too)
  • Traveling (chances are we won’t be traveling anytime soon, so travel without leaving your home)
  • Losing weight while having fun (it’s easy to gain some weight when you aren’t leaving your home)
  • Self-isolation (compete with other people in our awesome community)

In the end, just take action. Don’t let these bad times shake you and make you leave all the good routines behind. Now is the time to be strong.

Start with your body. Your soul will follow.
